Sugarcane is a high, massive grass that can grow up to 6 meters. The stalks contain pulp with a sugar content of about 20 %. It grows only in tropical areas with rich soil. Cane sugar is obtained from sugarcane and a by-product called molasses is obtained during its production process. Sometimes it is also called the "black gold" or the "black miracle". In North America, molasses was a very popular sweetener at the end of the last century. You can still find it in many traditional American cake and pudding recipes.
