Sesame paste is definitely the most common seed butter. It can be made of both peeled and unpeeled sesame, salted or without salt. Tahini made of peeled seeds is used mainly in Europe and in the Middle East, tahini made of unpeeled seeds is popular rather in East Asia. Sesame butter originates in ancient Persia, and in Israel, it was even considered to be a holy meal. Sesame butter is used for the preparation of traditional chalva, hummus or falafel.
